Today marks two weeks since I had my surgery. When you break a hip, progress is measured in small feats of independence like putting on my underwear by myself. Getting dressed. Going to the bathroom. Getting out of bed. Taking a shower. Putting on your shoes. I couldn't do any of these personal tasks by myself after I first got home. Now I can. Sometimes I feel like a small child, slowly gaining my independence. I can do it by myself!
Physically, my injured hip and my quad muscles are weak. With exercise it is getting stronger. After the surgery my leg felt like jelly. I couldn't move it. I can't bear too much weight on my injured leg. And I still need a walker and wheelchair to move around. But overall, I feel I am getting better. I have an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon this morning. We'll see what he says.
